Whats the latest method to monitor diabetes?

THE NEWEST TOP OF THE LINE EQUIPMENT FOR AT HOME TESTING.

Our 4 year old daughter has been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. I am a Nurse so I already had a pretty good idea that she had diabetes from her symptoms. I also know the medical side of it. What I am having trouble with is the Mom part. How do you deal with having to prick your child to test? What is the best meter you have found for your child? How do you deal with having to give them insulin injections? I have a meeting with her Pediatrician in the morning. But I need advise from parents. As a Nurse I have given hundreds of shots to children. But the though of pricking my baby and giving her Insulin injections just makes me cry. My husband just can not deal with needles at all ! How did you explain it to your child? Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Kali
As I said I am a Nurse. I know the whole medical side of this. I need advise from parents or others who deal with this with their chilren!

I recently started working for a company that sells all kinds of over-the-counter medications and medical supplies, and I’ve already learned so much, like the difference between Aleve tablets and caplets (It’s only the shape, because some people prefer swallowing ovals and some prefer swallowing circles. Who knew?), and the fact that Rogaine doesn’t work for receding hairlines. (Well, what does it do then, you ask? Apparently it will get rid of that unsightly bald spot, as long as that bald spot isn’t the entire front of your head.)
Today I was looking for information about different diabetic test strips, and I learned some really interesting things about what makes them accurate and which ones do the best job. It seemed like a good subject for my first article.

* Most test strips are “coded” because they vary from batch to batch. When someone tries to use the test strip, they have to enter the code (or sometimes a chip) into their glucose meter so that the reading will be correct.
* It’s not hard for this information to be entered incorrectly, and if the coding is incorrect, the meter can be up to 4mmol/L inaccurate. Improperly coded meters give the user up to a 43% chance of dosing improperly, which can be a major concern for someone actively trying to manage his or her diabetes.
* American Diabetes Services recently released information about a study of monitors and their accuracy. Ascensia Contour Test Strips came out as the most accurate products available because they require no coding.
* Without coding, the user can expect less chance of error. The test strip should read the same way each time, regardless of the batch number.
* The press release quotes Lorne Yaffe, Vice President of American Diabetes Services. “Many diabetics get confused when replacing their diabetic test strips and are not able to change the codes on their meters. This causes inaccuracies in their diabetic monitoring.” Lorne goes on to recommend the ascensia contour test strips because they take this risk out of the process.
* The press release included an invitation to read about the entire study, which also included One Touch Ultra and Freestyle brand test strips.

There are many people who are inflicted with the diabetes disease. Unfortunately, there is no cure-all miracle drug for those that have to live with diabetes, but there are several things that can help a person keep his or her diabetes under control. These tools, also known as diabetes testing supplies, will help an individual monitor the progress of the diabetes and keep a watch on his or her glucose levels.

There are several important diabetes testing supplies that a person usually uses in order to help him or her get a handle on their diabetes. A few of them are the blood sugar monitors, testing strips, as well as lancets that are included with diabetes testing supply packages. The blood sugar monitors are not at all expensive, but the testing strips are very expensive compared to the blood sugar monitor. One can think about the price difference compared with the cost of razors and razor blades. Likewise, the blood sugar monitor is relatively inexpensive compared with the testing strips. However, testing strips for people with diabetes are a crucial part and tool in helping an individual keep up to date on his or her diabetes situation. In a normal month span, a person may go through as many as one hundred testing strips, depending on the type and severity of the diabetes. The testing strips are included in testing supplies because a person will normally use 2 or 3 testing strips per day. The checks are normally done in the morning, at noontime, and sometime in the evening.

Or any trans-dermal methods of insulin delivery that do not require needles? Son has CF related diabetes. At present he only needs 1 injection of 24 hour Lantus insulin. In the future, perhaps soon, he may need the regular injections every time he eats and the more frequent testing. Is there any new stuff out there, aside from the pump, that could make this less painful?

My mom has a very mild type of diabetes. I was wondering how often do you change the needle for a glucose testing device.

For the diabetic the daily blood tests are a must if they are to control their disease. While it is not something that most people look forward to it is a necessity for proper management and treatment of diabetes. For many diabetics just obtaining their diabetic testing supplies can be quite a hassle, and when testing anywhere from 3 to 7 times a day they can exhaust their testing supplies rather quickly. Ordering and receiving those necessary supplies should be quick and easy.

The diabetic testing supplies that all diabetics need include a blood glucose monitor, test strips, lancets, and alcohol wipes. It is important that these testing supplies are properly maintained and taken care of. Getting a false reading because of faulty equipment can be dangerous and even life threatening. Be sure to read the directions carefully and follow them to endure accurate results. Also read over any maintenance instructions and adhere to them to keep any and all diabetic testing supplies in optimal working condition.

Blood Glucose Meter – How to Buy it

The life of a diabetic patient hangs on a rather precarious balance. Diabetic patients have to walk a tightrope because of the stringent need to balance their nutritional needs, hunger requirements and blood sugar levels continually. While they have to eat enough to keep themselves healthy and satiated, they must also refrain from anything that can cause their blood sugar levels to go haywire. They cannot afford high or low blood sugar levels, since both these extremes can lead to a number of dire consequences.

Maintaining a near-normal blood sugar level at all times is important to preserve of the health of various internal organs in a diabetic patient. Failure to do so may lead to a number of severe long-term health problems. However, in day-to-day life, it is quite difficult for diabetic patients to monitor their blood glucose level on a regular and continuous basis. This is where a blood glucose meter can help.
