Can I test myself for Diabetes by using someone else’s blood-glucose meter?
If so, how would I do it.

If so, how would I do it.
for a while i’ve suspected that i might have diabetes type 1 but not positive. currently the symptoms seem to fit, but i don’t want to spend lots on a test for just a hunch. i have insurance so i know it won’t be extremely high. Do you know the cost?
I am on birth control but I can’t say I’m the most diligent user and because of that my partner and I have generally used a condom as a backup. Once in a while we sometimes use the withdrawal method and pre-ejaculate excluded, he has been very good and withdrawing before ejaculation. The last time we used this method was over a month ago. I use my birth control so as to have a period (withdrawal) every three months and I have just started my withdrawal bleed. It doesn’t seem abnormal but for the past two weeks my body has felt off and I noticed an above average increase in my frequency and volume of urine. I know that this could be symptomatic of pregnancy and diabetes but I’ve decided to attempt to rule out pregnancy first. The question is; will taking a pregnancy test during my withdrawal bleed lend to giving me a false negative? If so, how long shall I wait after the end of my withdrawal bleed to take the test? It ends on Saturday, would using my first urine from Sunday be accurate enough or should I wait until Monday?
Hi, i recently has my blood glucose levels checked.
The nurse didnt use a needle, but one of those small things that pricks ur finger. After she pricked my finger, a pool of blood came out of my finger. Then she used one of those diabetes glucouse level machines with the strip of paper hanging from the top (diabetics use these) to absorbed the blood.
I think she did not change the strip from the last patient and used the same previous strip to absorb my blood. Its is likely that there was blood on the previous test strip and it came in contact with blood coming out of the prick of my finger.
Is it poosible to transmit any viruses like AIDS from this mistake?
I got a test kit from the pharmacy because I suspect I might have diabetes. Before I ate it was 100, I tested my blood sugar after eating it was 198. 1 hour after it was 168. Is that too high? or is that normal?
I am 37, a little overweight, moderately active. I feel exhausted after eating a meal regardless of what I eat or time of day. It is effecting the way I function in my day to day life. I am afraid of what a doctor might say. I had gestational diabetes with my first child 17 yrs. ago and was tested for diabetes during my second pregnancy and afterwards 14 yrs. ago. I was told by the doctor I had low blood sugar and could control it with diet. This dr. no longer practices, I went to two other doctors and was not retested, in fact they had no idea what these symptoms could have been caused from, but it was not low blood sugar or diabetes. I know it is not all in my head. My husband sees it first hand each day. Any advice would be appreciated.
I found a science fair project online that’s testing the glucose levels in fruits. It told me that I needed glucose test strips, and glucose tablets, fruit, and that’s all. I bought the strips, and when I tried them, nothing happened. There was also nothing in the directions about a color code system or anything on how to get results, just how to put it into a meter and stuff. I bought Walgreens Brand Blood Glucose Test Trips : Truetrack. I have no experience with diabetes. The test strips were expensive enough, and I’d REALLY like to not have to buy a meter. If the test strips absolutely REQUIRE a meter, do you have any ideas whatsoever to what I should do from here? Thank you SO much!!!
Here’s the project link: http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/FoodSci_p049.shtml?fave=no&isb=c2lkOjEsaWE6Rm9vZFNjaSxwOjIscmlkOjU5Mzk0Njg&from=TSW
I’d like to know if there are available for purchase anywhere in the world blood glucose meters which do NOT require test strips (e.g. using infrared to measure blood glucose levels).
Thanks for the info so far.
Mr. Peachy, while a pinprick is trivial, the cost for test strips isn’t. I have otherwise great health insurance at my workplace, but they don’t cover test strips; this amounts to a box of 50 test strips costing $50. A sweet deal for the test strip manufacturers.

Just wondering the normal range (low & high) for the 1 hour gluscose test they give you when you’re 27 weeks pregnant to test for gestational diabetes. On the web, I found the high to be 140, but nothing about the low side is. I want to know what side of the range i’m on. i tested at 125.
