Can you relate to any of this?

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

Does anyone know why they have to draw your blood, and why they don’t just use a glucose meter( the thing diabetics useto check their blood sugar levels)? Or is that an option and I don’t know about it? I am 28 weeks pregnant and I just went last week to my doctor to do the 1st glucose test…you know with the drink and waiting an hour for the blood draw thing. Well we just got a call today that I didn’t pass and I have to get the 3 hour (4 blood draw) test done now. I don’t mind too much its just the last 2 times they drew my blood I had a rediculously large bruse on my arm, that takes like 3 weeks to go away. And I was just seeing how I could avoid 4 more of those.

How do doctors determine you have diabetes?

I just had a physical and the doctor recommended i do fasting bloodwork. The doctor said from this bloodwork, they can test for diabetes. How do they determine this, high blood sugar count?

thank you for helping

To Those of YOU Born 1930-1979?

To all the KIDS who SURVIVED the 1930′s 40′s50′s60′s& 70′s!!!!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn’t get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.
We had NO child proof lids on medicine bottles locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes we had ball caps on our heads Not helmets.
As infants and children we would ride in cars with no car seats no booster seats no seat belts no air bags bald tires and some times no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick-up truck ,On a warm sunny day was a special treat for us kids ( when we were small) What memories.
We drank water from a garden hose and NOT a bottle.
We shared one soft drink amoung four people,From one bottle, and no one actually died from it.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool- Aid made with real sugar and we weren’t Over weight.
WHY?????
Because we were always out side PLAYING….. That’s WHY!!
We would leave homeas soon as we were allowed to go outside most times in the morning,And play all day as long as we were back before the street lights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our Go-Carts or play areas etc.etc. Out of scrap woods and what ever we could find, and then run the carts down the biggest hill we could find,Just to find out we had forgot the brakes. After running into trees, bushes fences we finally got the brake thing down (the feet).
We did not have Play Stations, Nintendo’s, or X Boxes, there were no video games, no 150 channels on the TV,No video movies or DVD’s no surround-sound or CD”s no Cell phones, No Computers, No Internet and No Chat rooms.
We had FRIENDS and We were OUTSIDE and had lots of Fun buy ourselves.
We fell from trees, got cuts, broken bones scrapes from falls or bad hits from the moves we did but no lawsuites came from any of this our accidents.
We ate dirt worms mud pies and the worms did not live in us and the dirt did not harm us either and we would do again if we were kids again.
We were given BB guns at age 10 made up games with sticks rope wood any thing we could find was a new toy for us and yes we were told you will put an eye out with that so let it be but never really did do any harm.
We rode bikes or walked around skats some times but walkes more than not.Go to a friengs home play kicked rockes to see how far they would go played marbles in the road rolled best there than dirt.
Little League had try outs and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with Disappointment.
IMAGINE THAT!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law.
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.
The past 50 years have been an Explosion of INNOVATION and NEW IDEAS.
We had Freedom, Failure, Success and Responsibility and we learned hoe to deal with it all.
IF YOU ARE ONE OF THEM………….

CONGRATULAITIONS!!!!!!

For a while they thought I had Herpes because of a certain enzyme, but ruled that out. Would diabetes have been tested in a situation like this?

I have been on Seasonale/Jolessa for four years now. In the past four years I have gained 50 pounds. Now I am not super active but I eat no more than 1100 calories a day (I am a veggie-head) and occasionally we eat out or go to Subway. I do exercise at least 30 minutes at least 5 days a week and have two young children with whom I help practice soccer and other sports regularly. I also swim for fitness.

Per the advice of my OB-GYN I have been taking Seasonale continuously for the past four years. I haven’t had a period at all other than breakthrough bleeding. I am considering completely stopping birth control..I am continuosly gaining weight and it doesn’t seem like it is going to stop anytime soon despite my exercise and healthy diet.

Fasting for 3 hour Gestational Diabetes Test?

I am going tomorrow morning at 8:00 for my three hour test. I already failed the fist one. My question is, can I drink anything tonight or in the morning? My nurse didn’t tell me what time I couldn’t eat or drink after any suggestions?

I am 30 1/2 weeks pregnant. I am 35 yrs old and I have gestational diabetes. I weigh 219. I’ve only gained 5 pds since I’ve gotten pregnant and the dr said that it was great that I wasn’t gaining a bunch of weight. The baby is a girl and her heartrate is around 140. She weighs 3 1/2 pds now which the dr said was above average and she is very active, which the dr also said was normal and great. Today when I went to the dr, she said that in two weeks I would start having an antenatal test (non-stress test) and an ultrasound to check the fluid around the baby. She also said I would have to do this every two weeks until the baby is born. She said the ultrasound is also to make sure that my placenta is not wearing out or that I’m not leaking fluid. Is this a normal procedure? Should I be worried? I didn’t have to do this with my first child. What is going on….I am really scared and worried. Please let me know if this is normal. Thanks.
