Apparently, pricking the lip is a fairly standard way to get blood for the test. Do a search on Google. If your vet diagnosed diabetes, he/she should have showed you how to do the home testing. If you continue to have trouble, I’d call the vet.
Under the base of the tail or the tip of the ear. Don’t go into the mouth.. If you cant ask your vet. Good Luck There is a new meter that is for humans that you can just put to the skin and it Will read check it out Go on line and you will find it.
You shouldn’t be testing your dog’s blood glucose at home. Only the veterinarian should be doing this. They usually get the blood from one of the veins. Your dog will definitely resent you if you pricked its skin everyday. The way your veterinarian should of told you to manage your dog diabetes at home is by testing your dog’s urine daily at home for ketones and glucose on urine test strips that should have been given to you by your vet.
My friend had a diabetic dog and only the vet tested its blood. They got her sugar stable and then she just had to give her insulin three times a day with her food. It will require close vet care.
