When there is a case of child diabetes, not only does the child suffer but the family does as well. After the initial diagnosis, it is perfectly normal to feel both anxious and overwhelmed. However, since children notice these emotions it is important to keep them in check for your child.

If you know the mom had gestational diabetes that was untreated, should the child be getting tested for diabetes in juvenile years? I know it does effect risk of obesity.

my son is 2 years old and the doctor told us yesterday that he is a bit overweight for his height. she was not super concerned at this point but diabetes does run in both sides of our family and I was just curious as to when he should be checked

My son is 7 yrs old and the doctor advised me that i should wait to have blood work done on him to test for diabetes. The problem is that his father and grandfather, and basically all the men on that side have diabetes.. His grandfather just passed away from it and his father who is only 29 yrs old has a insulin travel case that is strapped to him. It just worries me cause my son is tiny.. Hes always so thirsty and has to go to the bathroom quite offten .. I dont know i was hoping someone would know… Thank you
