Finding Low Cost Diabetic Supplies

Not too long ago my wife reminded me that she was running low on her Bayer Contour Diabetic Test Strips and I needed to run to the store and pick some up. Not wanting to go out and run to the store I decided to check online and see if I could get some shipped to the house and even save some money in the process. I found some great low cost diabetic testing supplies.

It has been demonstrated that strips are accurate up to 6 months. although companies who want you to purchase more of their strips will say they read high or low…the expiration date is simply the last day they can be sold…these Freestyle strips cost $115 for 100 and are less than one month out of expiration. I am trying to get them into the hands of people who need them. Kindly email me at rachroun@yahoo.com
I was talking about the price for new unexpired ones, not these! I did not know they could not be offered on YA…I read the complete rules and did not see anything about that.

Diabetes has become an epidemic in America. As a result of the way we have become accustomed to living our lives. That’s right this sedimentary life we live as we down those high-fat, sugar-filled foods has boosted the rate of diabetes to a staggering number. This result in the high cost of diabetes, both physically and financially which results in the search for ways to save on test strips. Look at some of the numbers we have to deal with.

The number of American adults with diabetes is expected to double by the year 2050. That means the 18 million who have it now will likely be over 36 million. Over 5 million do not know that they even have diabetes, yet. 20 percent of those over 65 have diabetes. 90 to 95 percent of all diabetes is diagnosed as type 2 diabetes, which is linked to physical inactivity and obesity. It has been estimated that those who were born in the year 2000 one in three will develop diabetes in their lifetime. This dreaded disease takes a tremendous toll on human lives.

No Insurance makes it rough to stay in supplies for much needed diabetic test strips and lacets for glucose meter. Dose any one know of a web site or program to help with diabetic free or very low cost supplies. Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Cost of diabetes testing supplies?

I have gestational diabetes. My doctor called in a prescription to my pharmacy (Rite Aid) on Friday evening. The guy working there told me that Tricare wouldn’t cover any of the cost and Medicare (Part B) wouldn’t pay for it because my doctor didn’t give a “diagnostic code”. I asked how much it would cost without insurance. The guy said that he would call my doctor on Monday and see about either changing my prescription to something Tricare would cover or giving the diagnostic code so Medicare would cover it. I went back Saturday and today, and got the same answer.
I’m supposed to have the testing supplies by Monday, to take to my doctor/diabetes educator/nutritionist appointment in the afternoon.
I’m hoping that everything works out with my insurance so I won’t have to pay, but if not, I’ll have to pay out of pocket (if I can afford it).

About how much does diabetes testing supplies (meter thing, strips, needles, whatever else I’ll need) cost? (I won’t need insulin.)

I am looking to find where to get free or low cost diabetic supplies for low income families with no insurance coverage.

Are you a diabetic and have no health insurance? I pity you since the average person with diabetes spends somewhere in the neighborhood of $13,000 a year on health costs. Compare this with the $2,500 a person without the disease spends and you can see why we are between a rock and a hard place with out health insurance. Obviously finding low cost diabetic supplies is mandatory for us.

I was personally turned down for health insurance coverage because I was considered “pre-diabetic” because it runs in my family. Every once in a while I will check my blood sugar with my wife’s glucose monitor and I have always been in a good range. I wonder how many others are stuck with no insurance or inadequate insurance to cover the high cost of their diabetes supplies.
