Question by : Anyone in Disease Control Know How To Help?
Hi, in my church congregation is a woman with type 2 diabetes. I was woozy in church this past Saturday, and she insisted that she use her monitoring equipment on me to check my blood sugar. She swears up and down that she used a new lancet, but used her own lancet pen to house the new lancet so I could put it against my skin to prick my finger. After she did this, a few hours later, I found out that she did, in fact have Hepatitis C. I am scared that I might have contracted it from this one episode, since this is the only time I have done this – I usually use only my own equipment at home. I am really worried now and went to the ER that night to get baseline tests and IG for Hep B and vaccinations for Hep A and Hep B, but that’s all they could do for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis for Hep C they said. I am really scared. What are the chances that I got Hep C from this situation, – I did not see any blood on the endcap of the lancet pen, but I know for a fact now that she definietly has Hep C.

There is a lot of talk about whether or not Ascensia contour test strips are actually effective. The reason that this is the case is because of the fact that they are so simple. For Diabetics that need to test their blood glucose, they just make things so easy. They make them so easy in fact, that they have recently come under fire. Fortunately though, after being thoroughly tested, it has been revealed that these tools from Bayer are still the best that money can buy. So you should stock up on a supply of them if you are low.
Those that live on their own use Ascensia contour test strips, as do those in assisted living communities. And of course, nurses and doctors in convalescent homes and apartments make use of them on a daily basis. They are far and away the best and easiest possible way to test blood glucose, and if you are not using them, you should. You can get them in packs of 25 to packs of 100, and they can also be purchased in large boxes as well. Obviously, ordering them in bulk is the way to get them for the cheapest.

I had the genetic test done through entero lab. Got results on 9/11
Interpretation Of HLA-DQ Testing: HLA-DQB1 gene analysis reveals that you have one of the main genes that predisposes to gluten sensitivity and celiac sprue, HLA-DQB1*0201 or HLA-DQB1*0302. Each of your offspring has a 50% chance of receiving this gene from you, and at least one of your parents passed it to you. You also have a non-celiac gene predisposing to gluten sensitivity (any DQ1, DQ2 not by HLA-DQB1*0201, or DQ3 not by HLA-DQB1*0302). Having one celiac gene and one gluten sensitive gene, means that each of your parents, and all of your children (if you have them) will possess at least one copy of a gluten sensitive gene. Having two copies also means there is an even stronger predisposition to gluten sensitivity than having one gene and the resultant immunologic gluten sensitivity or celiac disease may be more severe.
Went gluten free with some mistakes here and there(I’m still learning) on sep 6th just to see what would happen b-4 I got results back. Then stayed gluten free after results. My husband is concerned I’m not eating right because I’m already a vegetarian. He wanted me to get more of a difinative result. After all I’ve read you need to be eating gluten to have the correct result. So I ate soy sauce and floured gravy the night b-4 the test. Blood drawn 9/26 3 weeks after going gluten free with some learning mistakes. 1st question will 3 weeks affect the test? 2nd question got the test results today over the phone talked with the nurse that said she didn’t know how to interpret the results but she could give me the numbers. ttg ab-igg 4 & ttg ab-iga 6 does anyone know what that means? I’ve been searching the web for something and everything is sooo confusing.
My main symptom is constipation which has gone away since going gluten free. You may say well then stay gluten free if it is making you less constipated, but I’m not sure if it’s wheat or gluten and can I eat it occasionally? At home it is easy to stay gluten free but eating out is so hard.
Family history -no one in my family has been diagnosed although my aunt on my dad side died of lupus age of 50 and was diagnosed age of 13. My dad had severe allergies as a child that no one could figure out what he was allergic to and now he has diabetes. As far as allergies go he seems fine now. His mother has arthritis. The thing is I kind of want a difinative answer too because no one in my family is taking this seriously.
why I’m a vegetarian is going to sound silly but when I was little my mom read Little House on the Prarie to me and that is when I realized we eat and slaughter animals. I can’t imagine eating it and I never liked the smell of fish.

I am a diabetic. I have not yet bought a blood glucose meter. I have heard that it gives some difference in the readings. So if I buy one then I would like to do the following test in order to assess how different the reading of the blood glucose meter is from the one of the testing laboratory.
I will have my last meal before 9pm in the night and will not take anything after this. Early morning I will just have a glass of water and take the reading with the accucheck meter at 7am. After half an hour I will go to the medical laboratory near my home and take the test there. Compare both the results. For sure I believe the results should be the same with only half an hour gap between them.

I need to know the most accurate blood glucose meter…I have true track and according to my doctor…?
Okay, I went for my gestational diabetes test last week and brought along my own meter. True track. :/
well, an hour after drinking 50 grams of sugar according to my METER it said i was at 158…yikes..its supposed to be 140 or less. Okay…I accepted the fact that I might have gestational diabetes.
Then the doctor calls me about an unrelated issue I’ve had in my pregnancy and I ask her what my results were…(assuming that she was going to have me come in for my 3 hour test…She said i was LOW normal..at a 97!
97? Really?
Either my meter is WAY WAY off or there was a mistake…(the guy who did the blood draw was BRAND NEW, said it was his first day…) so it really in my un professional opinion could go either way. Either he messed up or my meter is TRASH.
I wanted to know if there are any RELIABLE sites that might have information on which meter is most accurate (.org .gov .edu) anything. Personal experience is also helpful. I HAD a contour a while ago, but it got lost in the move to our new place…From what I experienced with that meter it was pretty right on with what I was feeling, so I had no problem trusting it.
