I went today and they did the test.
I am so nervous I’m scared to death that I have it and my baby is in danger. It runs in my family.
So my question is: If i fail the test, when will I have to go back for the 2 hour test? Right away or at my next appointment?
Also If I am… could it have been hurting my baby this whole time? I don’t really understand it all this is my first.

Would you consider someone with a blood sugar of 75 to have low blood sugar. I come from strong family history on both sides of diabetes. I check every year with my doctor and do a full blood work up and plus my wife is diabetic so I randomly check my fasting blood sugar throw out year on her machine. A few days of ago I was really agitated telling my wife I was hungry and we needed to hurry up and leave because we were going to diner. She joked I was acting like I had low blood sugar even though an hour before I had a fruit juice smoothie. I tested and it was 75 that seemed low for just having a sugary drink to me. I called the nurse line and she said normal is 80-120 but 75 is ok and not to be concerned 70 or below is a number to be concerned with. Could I be becoming hypoglycemic? Do I need to start walking with a meter and testing?
Also in the afternoon I tend to have extreme extreme hunger , pain hungers. I try to keep snacks at my desk but it seems like nothing statisfies me

Some of you already answered this question but I reposted it with more detail. Thanks for the help!
I am going to the doctor to get tested for diabetes because of problems I have had with sugar in the past few years. I have no idea what to expect. Im going to ask the nurse when I call her today but I wanted to get answers from you all since you know first hand what the procedure is. Is there more than one type of test? Im not worried but would just like an idea of what to expect. Thanks bunches!

What I mean by having problems with sugar in the past is that I tend to get really sick by even drinking a coca cola. I feel really dizzy and my body goes into what is almost a convultion. I scared the crap out of my mom the other day when I went into one so we have decided to have me tested. I also found online that I have many of the symptoms of diabetes so it seems to me the best thing to do is to go get tested.

Long story, so bear with me. Tried this in the diabetes section, but no answers. I am 13 weeks pregnant and was discussing OGTT with my obstetrician yesterday. I can’t have a traditional OGTT done because I have periodic paralysis- the glucose may cause a serious paralytic attack. So instead my doctor decided to give me a blood glucose meter and monitor me over time to see if I am developing gestational diabetes. (I know, it’s kinda early, but he felt it was best to get a baseline.)
He told me to test twice a day- one test as soon as I get up, and another test one hour after a meal. So far so good, but this morning when I tested my blood, the reading was 102 (I hadn’t eaten for about 10 hours). It’s made me kinda nervous, since I have a pretty strong family history of diabetes (my parents and sibling don’t have it, but my grandparents and aunts and uncles do). My post-meal tests have been normal so far, but I can’t help wondering if this might mean pre-diabetes. I did read, though, that illness and stress can cause a change in readings. Right now I have a cold and I sprained my knee, which has had me resting for the last 3 days; could that be causing a high reading? Thanks!

Im 27 weeks with my third baby, I had a gestational diabetes test (no fasting) one hour oral. Well when I went to get up from waiting the hour to get my blood drawn I almost fell down and while getting my blood drawn I almost fell out of the chair. Driving home was no piece of cake either and once at home I started shaking really badly and just felt very bad (but not vomiting). The nurse ran a drop in a tester and it came back 158 on the monitor. I had GD with my first child but never experienced this before as in the shakes and almost falling down. Has anyone else experienced this or have any insight on it????
Yeah all it said on the form i signed was it may make you vomit or have blurred vision. I didnt say anything about the shakes.. would be nice if they would let us know.
joezen777- It was a glucose tolerance test they make you drink a sugar loaded drink… explain how I would have to lay off that when the lab made me drink it?

My mother-in-law just found out that she is diabetic and she was given a Blood Glucose Meter for obvious reasons. Unfortunately her doctor didn’t give her proper instructions on how often she should test her blood glucose levels. Does anyone out there know how often a diabetic person should test their glucose levels?

I’m 28 weeks with my first. No one in my family has diabetes, ( i know it can be hereditary).
I went for my 1 hour test. I got a call back from my docs office and they told me it was high, they are sending me to a 3 hour test tomorrow morning. I’ve gained 15 lbs so far but i was about 20 lbs over weight before getting pregnant.
could this be diabetes? If so, does it go away after the baby is born? What happens at birth? Any info will help. I just want my baby and I to be healthy. I heard the baby will be big. Does this mean my child will be overweight and hard for them to lose weight in their lifetime?
thanks

I am 30 weeks pregnant and I just found out I have gestational diabetes. Ohio Caresource will pay for the blood glucose meter and all supplies. However, I was wondering what type of meter they will pay for. Does anyone know? This is my first time using a glucose meter and I have to check my blood 4 times a day. I am looking for the least painful meter. – thanks.

I was told to test my blood sugar one hour after I took my first bite of a meal for my Gestational Diabetes. Today I got busy chasing around my toddler and ended losing track of time and accidentally had to take my blood sugar level at 1 hour 15 minutes.. Does the 15 minutes make much of a difference in my level? Would the level be higher or lower typically than if I had tested at exactly 1 hour?
